“What is externally lost, shall be internally won”. Such was the motto of the post war Denmark after it lost the battle with Germany. A great installation “From Foes to Friends – The Danish-German Borderland 1864-2014” of how two foes overcame they grievances and became friends.
Our group spent an interesting time, exploring the subject during the opening of the Danish Exhibition with Ambassador of Denmark to Ukraine Mr. Christian Dons Christensen.
The story of 1864 and the Danish-German fight over the border is not only important for Danes and Germans. Similar battles over national and linguistic boundaries can be found many places in Europe.
The exhibition highlights the developments in the Danish-German borderland from conflict to cooperation through 16 banners with photos and text. The exhibition was originally commissioned from the Museum of Sønderborg by the Danish Parliament in 2014 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the conflict of 1864. The exhibition has previously been shown in a number of other European cities.
The exhibition will be on display from 8th until 19th of June 2016 in the Atrium Hall of the Taras Shevchenko Museum.
